How Savvy Mompreneurs Stay Motivated
You’re a mom and an entrepreneur. Often there’s a fine line between the two and juggling both roles can make it difficult to stay motivated. Here are a few tips to help savvy mompreneurs stay focused and keep up their business motivation.
Make a Plan that Works For You
First: Set a schedule. One of the best ways to stay productive when working from home is to separate work from home. By setting work hours you say to the world and to yourself “I’m now working and can only deal with work.” Once your work hours are finished you can then move on to other tasks.
Where do you work? Is your work taking over your dining room table or do you have an office with a door that can be shut? Having one dedicated work space can also help you stay focused on your business tasks instead of being distracted with home tasks.
Remember, this is exactly what you would do if you worked outside the home. Knowing you have only a certain amount of time to complete your to-do list can increase your productivity and keep your motivation at an all time high. Falling behind on your work can really send any motivation you have into a nose dive. Avoid this common trap by working within a set schedule in a regular workspace.
Second: Create a goals board. Creating a visual reminder of why you do what you do is extremely motivating. This can be a simple cork board where you add written goals. You can also add pictures of your family and other reminders which help you feel what you do is worthwhile.
Keep this board in sight so that you see it each time you sit down to work. By simply having a visual reminder of why you’re doing what you do, you can remain motivated and moving forward toward your goals.
And don’t be afraid to change your goals from time to time. If you see college tuition bills in your near future, that might motivate you more than the diamond bracelet from Tiffany’s.
Third: Take a break. While this may seem counter-intuitive, it’s important to take a break from your business to recharge your batteries. Allow yourself lunch with a friend or a mani/pedi at the local spa. If you have something to look forward to, you are more likely to prioritize your tasks and stay motivated because there’s an end reward in sight.
Fourth: Take care of yourself. Feeling run down or tired can often be mistaken for lack of motivation. Take care of yourself by eating a healthy diet and taking a few minutes each day to get fresh air and exercise.
Re-energize Your Mind with Me Time
Fifteen minute walks during the day will help clear your mind so schedule those before an especially difficult task. Healthy meal planning will save you time and money and can easily be accomplished in the evening hours.
It may seem like you don’t have time to exercise or eat right but think about the time you will actually gain in the long term. Feeling healthy and energized will mean that you can concentrate better, work more productively and feel better all around. Remember that all of this leads to increased motivation and productivity.
As a mompreneur you can stay motivated and on task by creating the right balance between work and home life. The tips above will help you get started.

I really like the idea of a goals board. This is something that I don’t currently do, but I could see how motivating that is. I’m a little bit of an anomaly being that I’m a father of five and I work from the home. I have the same challenges, perhaps not as many as a mother, but still many! Setting a schedule which, like you mention, INCLUDES time off is key. We all have rough patches and off days, and some time off to yourself really does help in recharging the batteries to forge ahead once again!
I don’t see anything that doesn’t also apply to Dads at home Dave. If you are the at home care provider then you have taken on the traditional problems that Moms have dealt with.
When I schedule time for just me and/or going off with my girlfriends I come back a much better parent & crazy motivated to work on business. I try to help hubby get away as well, but it’s not easy to kick him out.
True!! My situation at home is very unique…yes, I work at home, but my wife is at home taking care of the kids. We try and spell each other off to give each of us a break…it works most of the time!
